Ratings Review: PRIVATE PRACTICE - The Final Season

After six seasons and 111 episodes, PRIVATE PRACTICE closed shop. The GREY'S ANATOMY spin-off served ABC well, but was never the huge hit they wanted.

The first three seasons PRIVATE PRACTICE pulled in decent ratings. Going from 10.8 million viewers to 9.2 million and from ranking #12 to #42.  The series fourth season got worse. It dropped and average 1.5 million viewers. This even though it has the "Mother Ship" as its lead in. The only time ratings would spike for PRIVATE PRACTICE was when they would have crossover episodes with GREY'S ANATOMY.

This final season was, obviously, a low point for the series. Most of the season, it never reached 5 million viewers or anything close to a decent A18-49 rating. It was preempted six times of the shortened season so as to not have any repeat episodes air.

I never watched the series. Not my cup of tea. But it should be proud of the six seasons it did have and the 111 episodes that will find its way to syndication and cable networks in the future.
