Ratings Archives: Week of December 1, 1997
With the November sweeps complete, ABC surges to win the week. Led by MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL (#1), ABC place seven programs in the top 20. However, the only scripted program from ABC on the chart was HOME IMPROVEMENT (#15).
Ranking eighth, for ABC, was Tuesday high Barbara Walters special, which brought in 17.7 million viewers.
CBS took second for the week, on the strength of its Sunday lineup of 60 MINUTES (#5), TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL (#3) and the Sunday Movie ONE THOUSAND MEN AND A BABY (#4). The network's only other top 20 entry was the annual airing of RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER (#15), on Monday night. That special drew just under 21 million viewers.
With it's MUST SEE TV line up in repeats, NBC placed third for the week. But with that said, the Thursday might line up did average about 18 million viewers. SEINFELD did rank second, with 23 million viewers. It was the rest of the NBC lineup that drug the average down.
FOX still came in fourth and the two regular top 20 entries where present this week. THE X-FILES drew 21 million viewers for 9th place, and KING OF THE HILL finished 19th with over 18 million viewers.
