Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 23, 2013
Week two of AMERICAN IDOL kicked off and the ratings were down from last week's season premiere. The 16.1 million viewers and 5.5 demo rating were off 11% and 10%, respectively. Not horrible week-to-week retention as viewers are feeling out the new judges.
ABC remained mostly flat week-to-week against AI, except NASHVILLE posted season lows. Down 16% in viewers and 18% in the demo, NASHVILLE pulled in just 5.5 million viewers and a 1.9 demo rating. It was the biggest week-to-week drop by any program on the night, in original episodes. The lost of Audience can bee seen directly opposite it, over at CSI.
CSI posted its best numbers of the season with 11.5 million viewers and a 2.6 demo rating. That translate into a retention rate of 97% in viewers and 84% in the demo from its CRIMINAL MINDS lead in. For a series in its 13th season, it is still doing decent in the ratings.
For a second week in a row, The CW topped NBC in the demo ratings. The CW was about 33% better than NBC in the key demographic posting a 1.0 average for the night to NBC's 0.75 average. Unlike last week, The CW also edged NBC in total viewers. It does not matter if NBC was all repeats, to be bested by the CW, at anytime, is embarrassing.
For the night, from top to bottom in viewers it was FOX (16.1 million), CBS (10 million), ABC (7.2 million), CW (2.6 million), and NBC (2.5 million). In the A18-49 ratings, FOX (5.5), ABC (2.5), CBS (2.4), CW (1.0) and NBC (0.8).
