For the third year in a row, BONANZA is the #1 program on all of television. The Cartwrights have captured America's imagination, now in it's 8th season. The dominate veteran western has not been out of the top 5 since it's third season. Based on popularity and ratings, it may be the most successful western of all time.
The 1966-67 season marks the first time a movie block makes the top 30 chart, but there were four such programs to make the chart. CBS had the more popular movie night with it's Friday Night Movies (#18), but it also placed a second night, Thursdays (#29). NBC and ABC both placed on Movie night on the schedule, Saturdays and Sundays, respectively.
Looking at the networks, NBC continues to become a stronger network by placing 10 programs in the top 30 chart. that is up 3 programs from the previous season. CBS still leads all networks with 14 programs, but it is beginning to lose ground. In fact, as you may not have noticed, its once dominate western GUNSMOKE didn't even make the top 30 this season. ABC is struggling this season only four scripted programs made the chart and only one of those, BEWITCHED (#7), made the top 20. its only other top 10 entry is the older skewing THE LAWRENCE WELK SHOW.
