Ratings: Broadcast Finals for September 10, 2012
It was good news, bad news for NBC on Monday. Let be positive and start with the good news.
THE VOICE dominated the night with an total viewer average of 12.28 million and an Adult 18-49 rating of 4.2. The numbers are strong and should be NBC's #2 program of the fall, after SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, each week. Unfortunately, this was the lowest ever premiere numbers for the series. We will see if going with two sessions this season will help or hurt the series.
Now, the bad news. Heavily promoted sitcom THE NEW NORMAL debuted with 6.88 million viewers and a 2.5 demo rating. That is a retention rate of just 56% in total viewers and 60% in the 18-49 demo. When you look at the numbers from the last half hour of THE VOICE, those numbers become even smaller. We will see on Wednesday afternoon if TNN will last beyond four episodes or be this years FREE AGENTS.
Despite the increased competition, FOX and its season finales of HELL'S KITCHEN and MASTERCHEF performed good numbers for the summer staples. FOX and Gordon Ramsey did well this season as each of the three series was the strength of the network.
