Previewing Fall 2012 Friday Nights.
It looks like the networks are not yet ready to throw in the towel on a second night of programming as all five networks are putting an effort to attract viewers on Friday nights.
CBS, in a smart move, has moved CSI: NY to 8:00pm, mainly to help protect its new 9:00pm series. CSI: NY will see the numbers fall a bit since it will be in the lower rated 8:00pm hour, but should challenge for the top show of the hour with ABC.
The CW has moved AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL to Fridays at 8:00pm... the place will it will finally die. I expect numbers to be really bad. Under a million viewers and around a 0.3 in the demo. But it could be filler until mid-season for the CW.
FOX will program KITCHEN NIGHTMARES at both 8:00pm and 9:00pm. Over the last few seasons KN is the only series to really do anything in the ratings. They will not be anything big, but should be enough to beat NBC for 3rd place.
This is one time slot NBC could challenge for a win. GRIMM did surprisingly well last season in the time slot, but the lack of lead in support could hurt it. If MIJ is weak, it could finish second in the hour, otherwise its a close 3rd place for the fairy tale drama.
Retuning for the CW is NAKITA. It should do about what it did this last season, 1.5 million viewers and a 0.5 in the demo.
ABC and NBC will have the battle of the news shows. Who will be on top will be very dependent on the stories each program features each week. An average week will have both in the 5-6 million range and a mid 1 demo rating.
It could be a tough battle for CBS to win the night as ABC has placed its schedule to really challenge it. The comedies could do really well and set the night up nicely for the win. NBC and FOX will be wrestle for 3rd, the CW will be 5th, unless ION 's encores do better.
Friday Nights at 8:00pm:
We have to wait until November, but it will be nice to have competing networks program comedies in this hour. Both ABC and NBC will have sitcoms at 8:00pm. ABC is going the traditional multi-camera sitcom direction with LAST MAN STANDING and the new series MALIBU COUNTRY. NBC is countering with low rated WHITNEY and COMMUNITY. This head-to-head battle will be won by ABC. ABC should get over 6 million viewers and around a 2.0 demo rating. NBC will tank with under 3 million viewers and struggle with just over a 1.0 in the demo.CBS, in a smart move, has moved CSI: NY to 8:00pm, mainly to help protect its new 9:00pm series. Friday Nights at 9:00pm:
CBS has the new Legal drama, MADE IN JERSEY. It's 'feel good drama' of the season. It is protected bu being sandwiched by CSI: NY and BLUE BLOODS, so it should do good numbers. Unlike last season A GIFTED MAN, it is a legal drama, so it should hook those that love crime shows. It should give a good fight against ABC and SHARK TANK for the top spot in the hour. MADE IN JERSEY should win total viewers, but the 18-49 demo is up for grabs. both should hover around a 1.8-2.0 demo rating. This is one time slot NBC could challenge for a win. GRIMM did surprisingly well last season in the time slot, but the lack of lead in support could hurt it. Fridays at 10:00pm:
BLUE BLOODS should win this time slot on most nights. It is the only scripted program in the hour and has performed strong its first two seasons, 12-million viewers and a 2.0 demo rating.ABC and NBC will have the battle of the news shows. Who will be on top will be very dependent on the stories each program features each week. An average week will have both in the 5-6 million range and a mid 1 demo rating.
