ION vs The CW - A Summer Feud for 5th
It has been a slow summer for TV. I know, I keep saying that. But I did look at the weekly network averages for the summer and we not surprised to see ION beating the CW each and every week in viewers and households. That is 6-7 strait weeks for ION. The CW does have a very slight edge in the 18-49 demo, but only by 0.1 ratings point. When you consider the content on both networks and the station affiliates, the ION numbers are that much more impressive.
I know, come September, the CW will climb back to 5th place. But to give up for 25% of the year, plus December and part of January, can they really even be considered a network? Let us not forget that when we do see numbers for My Network TV, they are usually better than the CW, even with originals airing.
But lets not kid ourselves. Neither ION or The CW will ever challenge the big 4 networks. Both are small fish looking for the left over scraps, after the sharks have had their feeding.

I think ABC and NBC are fighting for 3rd, with Univision (which is in only 49% of households) close behind. And like you said, MyNet beats both ION and CW. TeleFutura probably ranks in there somewhere. There's a slight chance PBS is beating it.
ReplyDeleteIt's more like CW is losing the battle for 8th to a network that's only in 60% of households.
