For the 2010 Olympics, 18-49 Demographic Not That Important

The Hollywood Reporter has a story out about the NBC Broadcast of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. In that story, they state that the telecast by NBC is skewing older in the 55+ age demographic, despite also getting ratings in the 7's for the 18-49 demographic.

The really interesting part of the story, for me, is that the games are sold on a household basis, not viewers or even demos.

Everyone, on the TV forums and boards, talk about how the demo ratings is all that matters and it is the "End All, Be All" statistic for television success. This is a nice reminder that ALL of the statistics Nielsen compiles and publishes is important. The specific breakdowns does help determine who is watching a show/series and how to sell advertising for that show/series.
