Sunday Nights: CBS's Weakest Link

Remember the day when Sundays were the strongest rated night for most networks? That's not the case anymore for CBS.

Don't misunderstand. CBS still gets over 11 million viewers, on average, for the night. But it is slowly slipping down further as the weeks go on. The Amazing Race used to easily get a 3.5 in the 18-49 demo, just fell under a 3.0 this past weekend. The Unit fell under 9 million viewers and close to a 2.0 in the demo.

It is time for CBS to revamp and relaunch the night with completely new programming from 8pm to 11pm ET. Early February, after the Super Bowl, would be a perfect time to introduce a new Sunday Schedule. A Schedule that, after 60 Minutes, kicks off with an hour of comedy. CBS Still has Rules of Engagement in it's hip pocket Pair it up with a new comedy and it should do better than the current numbers by TAR. At 9pm & 10pm, do not air a crime drama. Use the night for shows like Harper's Island or even a Soapy Drama to follow.

If CBS is wanting to establish new shows with out a crime element in the story line, they need a night that does not air such shows. Sundays is set up perfect to do this now.

What to do with the 3 relocated shows???
Move Cold Case to Fridays at 9pm - It will boost the numbers and demo for that troubled slot. It would also be a perfect bridge between Ghost Whisperer and Numbers.

The Amazing Race - Hold back on the next cycle, for now. See if another spot opens up. If Not, Lets use it on Saturdays at 9pm. Everyone is wanting CBS to get away from its CRIME TIME repeats and this may be the show that could hold and improve the viewer numbers and easily double the demo numbers. Then you could use Million Dollar Password at 8pm as a perfect lead in.

The Unit - Sorry, but its time has come. I was shocked and surprised it came back this season. it is CBS' weakest drama.

  1. I agree this will be the last season of The Unit. CBS should move Cold Case to Friday at 9 pm out of Ghost Whisperer. That would give them a very formidable Friday lineup. I'd like to see how the comedies do on Wednesday before messing with them. TAR does not need to air out of 60 Minutes though. There is absolutely no compatibility.
