Final Broadcast Ratings: September 28, 2017
CBS kicked of THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL to less than stellar numbers, grabbing 14.6 million viewers and a 3.2 rating in Adults 18-49. Compared to last year's first CBS game, the numbers are down by 800,000 viewers and 11% in the A18-49 demographic. The game did encounter a weather delay in the 9 PM hour, noted in the chart.
ABC took second, on the strength of a two-hour season premiere of GREY'S ANATOMY. From 8 to 10 PM, the drama averaged 8.1 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in Adults 18-49. Last fall, GREY'S drew 8.8 million viewers and a 2.9 demo rating. HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER is a dying series, as it dropped more than 50% of its GREY'S lead in. One year ago, the crime drama held onto 5.1 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in Adults 18-49.
NBC was third on the night, with a near full night of premieres. The highlight is the return of WILL & GRACE to the airwaves. The sitcom was the #1 non-NFL program, drawing 10.2 million viewers and a solid 3.0 rating in Adults 18-49. Time will tell if this is a one-time ratings boost, or if viewers are wanting more W&G. The rest of the night for NBC was decent, ranking third for most of the night. CHICAGO FIRE grew from its GOOD NEWS lead in and was the #3 entertainment program of the night.
FOX is pretty much dead on night, in a distant 4th place finish. Neither GOTHAM or THE ORVILLE finished above fourth place. GOTHAM was the lowest rated program of the night, excluding The CW.
