Ratings Review: AMERICAN DAD (Season Ten)

After ten season on FOX, would you consider AMERICAN DAD one of the all-time great animated series? The longevity would suggest it is, but when you look at the ratings, a different conclusion comes to my mind.

AMERICAN DAD has had the benefit of having FAMILY GUY or THE SIMPSONS as it's lead in. Ratings would always drop, but not as bad as some of the other animated series that have had either of those spots.

In the fall & winter, when AMERICAN DAD had the nice FAMILY GUY lead in, the ratings are nearly double that of when it was move to the 7:30 slot. True, the 7:30 slot is not a good slot at all, and it was already known the series would not return for another season. But, AMERICAN DAD seems to be no more than an above average filler for a post THE SIMPSONS/FAMILY GUY slot.

For the season, AMERICAN DAD averaged 3.17 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in Adults 18-49, for the 25 airings, including five encore episodes. AMERICAN DAD lives on on Adults swim and often makes the nightly top 10 chart. I wonder, if in 5 years, we will see AMERICAN DAD come back with new episodes, much like FUTURAMA and FAMILY GUY?
