Ratings Review: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (Summer 2013)

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE was once a strong, summer competition series that air twice a week. But with age, come a slowing down. The series is far from being a strong performer in the ratings and is now airing just once per week. Quite frankly, I am surprised FOX has kept it on this long.

The ratings did start out relatively promising. Demo ratings in the twos and a decent level of viewership, but as the weather got hotter, the ratings got lower. In august, viewership was below four million viewers and the A18-49 ratings dropped into the low ones. But a decent little rebound to close out the season saved the series.

For the 17 episodes, SYTYCD averaged 4.42 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in Adults 18-49. It is the worst performance of the 10 year old series. Some how, for what reason I do not know, FOX has renewed SYTYCD for the summer of 2014. If it is smart, it will move the series away from the middle of the week. But, FOX is in a bit of a transition as their hit talent competitions series hit the skids and the find a way to move forward with new programming.
