Complete Nielsen Ratings: Week of 07/30/12
The full Nielsen rankings and ratings from #1 to #81:
NBC's coverage of the XXX Summer Olympics is completely dominating the TV landscape this summer. All seven nights of coverage are at the top of the charts. Tuesday night, featuring the Women's Gymnastics team finals, was the top night of coverage with 38.7 million viewers and a very healthy 12.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The lowest viewed night was, of course, Saturday night. Just under 28 million viewers decided to stay home to watch night nine of competition.
NBC has done a great job of covering the games, despite the five hour time difference from London to New York. To have events available for prime time, you have to have some tape delay, and as a person that works during the day, I am thankful for the ability to watch the exciting events at night.
The winter games are just 18 months away, in Sochi, Russia. There is roughloy an eight hour time difference, so delayed coverage will continue. But, come 2016, when the summer games are in Brazil, NBC will have more events available for LIVE prime time coverage.
Outside of the Olympics, on CBS is doing decent. It took all the spots from #8 to #20, in total viewers.and with exception of one non-Saturday program, all of their schedule was within the top 35. CBS also had five of the next top six program in the demo ratings, after the Olympics, and only BIG BROTHER was able to squeeze a 2.0+ rating.
