Most of the big players in the streaming wars have been releasing their latest numbers to investors, including how their respective streaming properties. Here is a quick snapshot of where some or most of the bigger players in the industry are with their subscriber levels.
ViacomCBS:
In their Q1 earning report, ViacomCBS states that have 36 million total streaming subscribers, lead by Paramount+, and Global Pluto TV Monthly Active Users (MAUs) reach about 50 million. Streaming revenue rose 65% year-over-year, now at $816 million for Q1.
NETFLIX:
Quarterly revenue is now at $7.16 billion, up $1.4 billion from the same period in 2020. Worldwide, the leading streaming service has 207.6 million paid subscribers.
DISNEY:
Disney, with three major streaming services, as a total reach of 159 million subscribers. Disney+ leads the way with just under 104 million subscribers. HULU has 41.6 million subs, with 3.8 million of those doing both SVOD and Live TV. ESPN+ now has 13.8 million subs. Total revenue from this segment is at $4 billion (Q2 Earnings).
AT&T:
Q1 numbers show that AT&T, with its HBO and HBO Max services, has nearly 64 million global subscribers. Total subscription revenues are up to $3.8 billion and the domestic APRU, which I believe is the average price paid for each subscriber, is at $11.72.
COMCAST:
The media giant reports in its Q1 earnings report that Peacock has 42 million "sign-ups". They don't assign a direct revenue number to streaming, but its NBCUniversal total MEDIA revenue is at just over $5 billion.
AMAZON:
Amazon Prime announced that it now has more than 200 million subscribers. The services includes more than just its streaming service, including free shipping, music, and other services for about $119 per year.
APPLE:
Finding solid numbers for Apple TV+ is not easy. Apple's quarterly earning report throws tApple TV+ in its "Services" category, which includes about everything that is not a "Product". Looking at some online reports from January 2021, 62% off all of its subscribers were on a free promotion. Apple TV is currently priced at $4.99 per month. Statista estimates there are about 40 million users, at the end of 2020, which places only 13.2 million users on the paid level.
