US Box Office Results: May 31 - June 2, 2019
GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS was king of the box office this weekend, grossing $49 million in its first weekend of release. It edged out ALADDIN, last week's #1 movie, by seven million dollars. The $49 million is a little more than half the opening weekend of the 2014 GODZILLA movie and is only a little more then the 1998 movie, starring Matthew Broderick, brought in in its opening weekend.
There were two other new movies out this weekend, the Elton John bio pic, ROCKETMAN, came in third, with $25 million, while the thriller, MA, grossed over $18 million. MA has already made its $5 million production budget back, and then some, while ROCKETMAN, may take a few weeks to recoup its $40 million price tag.
