TOP TEN: Top Grossing Movies of Q1 (Jan 1 - March 31, 2019)
2019 started of very well, at the box office, with seven movies grossing over $100 million, in what is the slowest time of the year, for movies. CAPTAIN MARVEL leads the way with $354 million, before April 1, a cool $200 million more than the #2 movie, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD.Two movies released in 2018 made the chart, with DC's AQUAMAN taking the #3 spot, with $136 million about one-third of its total box office take. Another superhero movie, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, was #9 with $82 million, about half of its total box office gross.
Just outside of the top ten was MARRY POPPINS RETURNS (#11) getting just $66 million, domestically, or about one-third of its production budget.
