ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL was the top movie of the weekend, collecting $28.3 million in its first weekend of release, and a total of $37 million since its Feb 14 release. It will fall far short of its $170 million production budget, with its domestic gross, but international receipts, currently at 94 million, could help the movie make money, in the long run.
THE LEGO MOVIE 2 dropped to second place, with $21 million, bringing its 10-day total to $62.5 million.
The other two new releases, ISN'T IT ROMANTIC and HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U ranked 3rd and 5th, respectively. ROMANTIC grossed under $15 million, for the three day weekend, while HAPPY DEATH DAY was under $10 million.
