US Box Office Results: December 14 - 16, 2018
The animated movie, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was this weekend's #1 movie, grossing $35.4 million in its first three days of release. It is now the largest opening of an animated movie in December, but in the seven-film SPIDER-MAN series, it is the lowest opening of the bunch, nearly $30 million behind #6, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
Clint Eastwood's latest film, THE MULE, was #2 on this weekend, grabbing less than half the #1 movie, with $17.2 million. The $50 million movie should make back its $50 million budget, especially if it starts getting OSCAR buzz, over the holidays.
MORTAL ENGINES looks to be the next big flop of 2018, as the $100 million film took in just $7.5 million in its first weekend of release. it might be lucky if it tops $20 million, domestically, by the end of its theatrical run.
