US Box Office Results: March 16 - 18, 2018
BLACK PANTHER continues to dominate the box office, winning its fifth straight week at the box office, with $27 million. The movie has crossed over the $600 million mark, domestically, and will pass STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI for the #6 spot all time, sometime next week.
New entry, TOMB RAIDER, debuted with a $23.5 million take, in its first three days of release. That is half the box office as the original 2001 film took in, in its opening weekend. The film will struggle to match its $94 million production budget, in the US market.
Christian film, I CAN OLY IMAGINE, grossed over $17 million its first weekend of release, making it a profitable film by more than doubling its meager $7 million production budget. That makes it the fourth best opening by a traditional christian movie, behind 2016's HEAVEN IS REAL. The film was also in about half the theaters as the other top movie and had the highest per screen average, beating BLACK PANTHER by 50%, $10,400 to $7,000.
