Top 17 Theatrical Movies of 2017

It was another strong year at the box office, with Disney coming out the clear winner. The mega-media company took four of the top seven spots, including the top two (THE LAST JEDI and BEAUTY & THE BEAST), which had combined grosses over $1.02 billion. Of the top 17, Disney movies owned six movies, one more than Warner Brothers.

Superheroes continue to be the main draw, with seven movies in the top 17. WONDER WOMAN was a surprise #1 in the genre, getting over $412 million, beating SPIDERMAN and THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

DESPICABLE ME 3 was the year's top animated movie, grossing $264.6 million, $86 million more than Pixar's COCO.

The biggest disappointment of 2017 has to be THE DARK TOWER. It was supposed to be the next great franchise, but the initial movie took in just $50.7 million and the whole franchise (Movies & TV) may be put on hold.
