The mega-media company took four of the top seven spots, including the top two (THE LAST JEDI and BEAUTY & THE BEAST), which had combined grosses over $1.02 billion. Of the top 17, Disney movies owned six movies, one more than Warner Brothers.Superheroes continue to be the main draw, with seven movies in the top 17. WONDER WOMAN was a surprise #1 in the genre, getting over $412 million, beating SPIDERMAN and THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
DESPICABLE ME 3 was the year's top animated movie, grossing $264.6 million, $86 million more than Pixar's COCO.
