The much anticipated movie, THE DARK TOWR hit theaters this weekend to a very soft $19.5 million, ranking as the top movie of the weekend. The Stephen King adaptation is supposed to be a long, continuing story, with theatrical movies and a TV series planned in the future. But, only making a third of its production budget, puts all these plans in jeopardy, let along trying to recoup the money invest in this first film.
This weekend's only other new movie in wide release was KIDNAP, starring Halle Berry. The movie grossed $10.2 million, in its first three days, ranking 5th overall.
DESPICABLE ME 3 and WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES are coming close to the end of their run, grossing a domestic total of $241 million and $130 million respectively. DM3 will end up tripling its production budget, while APES will struggle to reach its $150 million production cost.
