US Box Office Results: July 7 - 9, 2017
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING was the #1 movie in America, hauling in a robust $117 million, in its first three days of release. it is the second best opening of the franchise, behind 2007's release and much better than the previous reboot's last two films. SM: HOMECOMING generated the third best opening of the year, behind BEAUTY & THE BEAST and GUARDIANS 2.
Last week's #1 movie, DESPICABLE ME 3, dropped over 50%, week-to-week, but still collected a strong $34 million, bringing its 10-day total to just under $150 million.
Now in its sixth weekend of release, WONDER WOMAN added over $10 million to its domestic total, for a grand total of $369 million. It is just $17 million shy of passing GUARDIANS 2 for the #2 spot of the year and the top superhero film of 2017.
Still in limited release, THE BIG SICK, was the #2 movie in average gross per screen. The movie is in just 326 theaters, grossing $3.65 million, for an average of $11,196 per screen.
