Preliminary Ratings: Tuesday 05/23/2017
The season finale of THE VOICE tops the season finale of DANCING WITH THE STARS, allowing NBC to win on Tuesday night. The singing competition series drew 9.1 million viewers and a 1.9 rating in Adults 18-49. That is down 1.4 million viewers and a half a point in the demo, from last fall's finale. Erosion is the same, when comparing year-to-year numbers. Earlier, GREAT NEWS topped BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, head to head, but both were battling to stay out of 4th place.
The season finale of DANCING WITH THE STARS only collected 8.8 million viewers and a 1.3 demo rating, down significantly from its Monday night average. Compared to the fall finale, DWTS lost a half a point in the demo and dropped 2.2 million total viewers. Last spring, the finale drew 10.5 million viewers and a 1.6 demo rating. What hurst DWTS is airing the finale on a night it almost never airs on.
The CW pushed past FOX and CBS, to place third in the A18-34 demographic, beat FOX in the A18-49 demographic and tied FOX in the older, A25-54 age group. THE FLASH FINALE posted a solid 0.8 rating in Adults 18-34 demo and a 1.1 rating in the A18-49 demo, to win the 8 PM hour. i ZOMBIE lost nearly two-thirds of its lead in audience, in all age groups.
CBS only had BULL in an original episode, from its regular line up. The freshman series finale collected 8.4 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the A18-49 demo. Not having a new NCIS as a lead in dropped the episode well below its season average.
FOX looked horrible on the night, getting swept by The CW, placing last on the night. Although I love B99, how can FOX renew such a low rated series and expect to increase vieweship in the new season?
