2017-18 Preview: Tuesday Nights
ABC made the biggest ganges on the night, with only THE MIDDLE returning to its 2016-17 time slot. FRESH OFF THE BOAT should see numbers rise, now that it is in between two solid performers, with BLACK-ISH moving to the NIght's 9 PM slot. The second half of the night is all-new, with what may be the best new comedy. THE MAYOR, occupying the 9:30 slot. Expect the sitcom to beat both BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and THE GOOD PLACE, easily. New drama, THE GOSPEL OF KEVIN will have a tough hill to climb, going up against both CHICAGO FIRE and NCIS: NEW ORLEANS. Historically, this has been a terrible time slot for ABC, with AGENTS OF SHIELD, WICKED CITY, OF KINGS & PROPHETS, FOREVER, LUCKY 7, and KILLER WOMEN all doing horrible ratings, since the cancellation of BODY OF PROOF.
NBC is basically the same, with two different comedies occupying the 9 PM hour. Both sitcoms will do poorly, losing around 50% of its THE VOICE lead in. But, NBC could still win the night, if THE VOICE stays strong in the ratings.
CBS will challenge NBC for the nightly win, as it keeps its Tuesday night line up intact.
For FOX, the night will improve, with the addition of LETHAL WEAPON on the night. But, the comedies may not do any better at 9 PM, than they did at 8 PM.
The CW could challenge FOX for fourth place, in the demographic ratings. LEGENDS OF TOMORROW may be strong enough to top the FOX comedies, while THE FLASH will challenge LETHA WEAPON at 8 PM.
Winning the Night, NBC/CBS. ABC should be a solid third place, competing with NBC/CBS for second. FOX and The CW will fight it out for the scraps of the night.
First show to be axed from the night: GOSPEL OF KEVIN. Not because it is bad, but because of its time slot and competition in the hour.
