SPLIT holds off fellow horror film new comer, RINGS, to hold onto the #1 spot on the weekend movie chart. The film added $14.6 million tot its total, which is now just under $100 million, after 17 days of release. That is more than 10 times the production budget of the small film.
RINGS, a second sequel to the RING franchise, fell flat in its opening weekend, grossing just $13 million. A 12 year gap between movie two and three may have been to wide as the opening is the worst of the three movie, including 2002's first film take of $15 million.
The only other new release in the top ten was #9's THE SPACE BETWEN US. The Sci-fi drama only took in $3.8 million on 2,800 screens and had the lowest per-screen average of any movie in the ten, with $1,358.
