US Box Office Results: February 10 - 12, 2017
Three new movies top this weekend's box office chart, with THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE grabbing the top spot. The family friendly movie took in $55.6 million in its first three days with a per screen average of over $13.6k. It is down about $13.4 million from 2014's THE LEGO MOVIE, despite being in 300 more theaters. The movie should still have a healthy life as it will try to get over $150 million, domestically.
On the opposite end of the movie spectrum, FIFTY SHADES DARKER opened dramatically down from 2015's movie. The $46.8 million take is down nearly $40 million from FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. The movie did cost just $55 million to make, so it will see profits at the end of its run.
Another sequel, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO, took in $30 million for the #3 spot. That is more then double the opening weekend to the first movie, released in October of 2014. JW:C2 has an outside chance of topping $100 million, for its total domestic take.
