US Box Office Results: January 6 - 8, 0217
The start of 2017 US Box office stared just as 2016 ended and stared, with a STAR WARS movie topping the weekend chart. ROGUE ONE, continues its run at #1, for the fourth week in a row, collecting another $22 million. That brings the domestic total to over $477 million and the world wide total to $914 million.
The new period drama, HIDDEN FIGURES did give ROGUE one a run for its mony, falling just $200k short of topping it for the #1 spot, despite being in 1,600 less theaters. Its per screen average was over $8,800, where as ROGUE ONE was only $5,300. HIDDEN FIGURES has already grossed its total production budget of $25 million.
New entry, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS, debuts at the #4 spot, taking #13 million in its first three days. That is the worst opening weekend in the five film franchise, nearly a 50% drop from the last film, in 2012. This opening could end the franchise... until someone decides to do a reboot, in a few years.
