US Box Office Results: January 27 - 29, 2017
Little movies rule the top of this week's box office and the top five movies of the weekend were each made for $40 million, or less. The #1 movie, for the second straight weekend, SPLIT, was made for just $9 million. It made another $26.3 million, bringing its 10-day total to a robust $78 million. SPLIT only lost 34% from last week's take.
New movie, A DOG'S PURPOSE was #2 for the weekend, grossing $18.4 million in its first three days, falling just $3.6 million short of its $22 million production budget.
HIDDEN FIGURES continues to draw in audiences, adding another $14 million to its total and crossing over the $100 million mark. That is four time the production budget of the movie and it is still going strong.
The latest, and perhaps last, RESIDENT EVIL movie only brought in $14 million, for the #4 spot. Made for just $40 million, this movie will struggle to come close to making up its production budget.
