Final Broadcast Ratings: January 26, 2017
CBS and NBC did ABC and The CW a favor by not airing originals of their shows, while theirs return from winter hiatus. The Both ABC and The CW have not aired original episode of their Thursday series for around two to two and a half months and The CW is debuting a new series on the night.
ABC easily sweeps the night, with its three dramas, winning every hour of the night. GREY'S ANATOMY drew the night's best numbers, with 9.6 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in Adults 18-49. that is up 1.6 million viewers and 18% in the demo, from its fall finale, in mid November. SCANDAL bows in for the first time this season, but its 7.6 million viewers and 2.0 demo rating is a loss of 1.8 million viewers and 23% in the demo from its GREY'S lead in. The drama is on par from last year's winter premiere and up from the season finale, last may.
THE CW had a relatively good night, coming in third in the A18-34 demo and also tying NBC in the A18-49 demo. SUPERNATURAL, now airing an hour earlier, is on par with its fall finale, collecting 1.7 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in Adults 18-49. The new series, RIVERDALE, based on the ARCHIE comic book characters, held onto 82% in total viewers and only lost a tenth of a point in the A18-49 demo, from its lead in. That is better than either NO TOMORROW or FREQUENCY did in their premieres, last fall.
By default, FOX was the #2 network of the night, following ABC in both the A18-34 and the A18-49 demo. CBS still topped FOX in the older, A25-54 demo and in total viewers. Both cooking series pulled numbers comparable to last week's episodes.
The CBS News retrospective of Mary Tyler More, who passed away on Wednesday, was a distant second place in the 9 PM hour.
