US Box Office Results: November 4 - 6, 2016
It was a given that the lastest move of the Marvel Cenimatic Universe would be the #1 movie this weekend, but what was unknown was how much it would bring in. DR. STRANGE brought in $85 million in its first three days of release, ranking 10th within the 14 movies that make up universe. Only first THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA movies, plus last year's ANT-MAN and 2008's THE INCREDIBLE HULK had smaller opening weekends. But, when you look at thos 14 movies, only two of the three IRON MAN movies, the two AVENGER movies and this spring's CIVIL WAR movie opened above $1000 million. DR. STRANGE should haul in arounf $200 million, domesticaly.
There were two other new releases this weekend, with the animated TROLLS (#2) taking in $45.6 million and the the military action film, HACKSAW RIDGE (#3) grossing just under $15 million. HACKSAW RIDGE will struggle to total $50 million before the end of its theatrical run, but TROLLS should easily get over $100 million.
