US Box Office Results: September 30 - October 2, 2016
Two new movies top this weekend's box office, with the Tim Burton movie, MISS PEREGRINES'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, taking the #1 spot, with over $28.5 million. Right behind it, at $20.6 million, is the action drama, DEEPWATER HORIZON, starring Mark Wahlburg and Kurt Russell. Both movies will struggle to make their respective production budgets of $110 million each.
Last week's #1 movie, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, added another $15.7 million to its total of over $61.6 million, to take the #3 spot this week. The western is also doing decent numbers internationally, adding $47 million and bringing its worldwide box office total to over #108 million.
Flopping at the box office this week was the new comedy, MASTERMINDS. The Zach Galifianakis Owen Wilson movie only took in $6.6 million in its first weekend and will be lucky to reach a total of $20 million, domestically, during its total theatrical run.
