Final Broadcast Ratings: October 2, 2016
CBS premiered its final two Sunday dramas, to little fanfare in the ratings. MADAM SECRETARY drew 9.2 million viewers and posted a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49, ranking third in the hour in the three demographic categories. The premiere lost close to 20% of its NCIS: LA lead in, over 25% in the A18-49 demo. Year-to-year, MADAM SECRETARY is only down a tenth of a point in the demo and flat in total viewers. At 10 PM, the season premiere of ELEMENTARY finished last in its time slot, in all three demographic categories, but did top QUANTICO in total viewers, by 2.4 million viewers. Last year, ELEMENTARY had its premiere on Thursday night, where it posted a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49, with a total audience of 5.6 million viewers.
ABC, in fourth place on the night, premiered AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS, at 7 PM, and it drew the largest audience for the network, on the night. It equalled both SECRETS & LIES and QUANTICO in the demos and was just a notch under ONCE UPON A TIME. Not a good night, at all, for ABC.
NBC won the night, thanks to Sunday Night Football, but a blowout by Pittsburgh over Kansas City, pushed the numbers down, as the night went on. The game is the lowest rated game of SNF, for the season.
FOX had an up night, thanks to NFL overrun in the 7 PM hour. That lead into an inflated THE SIMPSONS, at 8 PM, which nearly doubled its numbers from the previous week. ZORN and FAMILY GIUY also saw the numbers go up with improved lead ins, but THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, at 9:30 PM, felt almost no affect from the NFL boost.
