Final Broadcast Ratings: September 11, 2016
The first SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL game dominated the ratings, collecting a robust 23.1 million viewers and a 8.4 rating in Adults 18-49. That is 3.86 million viewers less than last year's first Sunday Night game. NBC still more than doubled up the next closest competition on the night.
With NFL overrun and THE OT, on during the 7 PM hour, FOX was able to secure the #2 spot of the night. The late game brought in 18 million viewers, into primetime, down significantly what CBS did in 2016. THE OT bridged 14.4 million viewers in to the FOX regular primetime line up, featuring the series premiere of SON OF ZORN. The mix Animated/Live action comedy held onto 6.1 million viewers, or just 43%, of its lead in audience. The demographic ratings were not much better, losing more viewers than they kept.
ABC edged past CBS, as THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT drew a respectable 1.3 rating in the A18-49 demo, along with 6.2 million viewers. The annual event placed second in the 9 to 11 PM time slot.
CBS did OK numbers from 7 to 9 PM, with BIG BROTHER doing near season average numbers. But back-to-back, season ending episodes of BREAIN DEAD left the ratings dead for CBS. Both hours were the lowest rated programs of the night.
