US Box Office Results: August 5 - 7, 2016
The big unknown that was SUICIDE SQUAD became very known this weekend, hauling in over $135 million its first three days of release and is the nations #1 movie. The DC Comics movie now has the biggest August box office opening, topping GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY $94 million, in 2014. For Will Smith, this is his biggest ever box office opening weekend and the first time he has been over $60 million since 2008's HANCOCK ($62.6 million).
Last week's #1 movie, JASON BOURNE, fell to second place, adding $22,7 million to its 10-day total of 103 million. The movie fell 0ver 60% from its opening weekend take, a sign of short life in theaters. The nine years in between BOURNE movies with Matt Damon may have just been too long.
SECRET LIFE OF PETS has colelcted over $319 million this summer, amking it the #3 movie of the season.
