US Box Office Results: July 8 - 10, 2016
Disney is not the only production house that can do big numbers for Animated movies. The Universal release, PETS, collected a robust $103 million in its first three days of release. It is the biggest opening ever for an original animated property, topping last year's INSIDE OUT by $13 million. It is just the sixth animated movie to open over $100 million, joining the ranks of two SHREK movies, MINONS, TOY STORY 3, and FINDING DORY.
THE LEGEND OF TARZAN stayed in the #2 spot, adding $20.6 million to its total. After 10 days, the remake has grossed $81.4 million, roughly $100 million under what it cost to produce the movie. International receipts are also slow, with just $54 million to date.
MIKE AND DAVE FIND WEDDING DATES picked up half of its total production cost in its first three days. The comedy was in less than three thousand theaters.
The India produced film, SULTAN, earned enough to be the week's #10 movie, with a little over $2.2 million in just 283 theaters, It had the second best per-screen average, behind PETS, with over $7,800.
