US Box Office Results: June 3 - 5, 2016
The TEEN AGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS may be the #1 movie this weekend, but it weak opening weekend for the sequel. The new movie earned 46% less than the 2014 TMNT movie and will be lucky if it can earn back its $135 million production busget, domestically. This 2016 movie only made $10 million more in its opening weekend than the 1990 original movie.
Romance movie, ME BEFORE YOU exceeded expectations, collecting over $18 million in its first three days, to grab the #3 spot. It nearly recouped all of its $20 million production budget and topped high-budget, ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, which was in its second weekend of release.
Not faring as well in its forst weekend of release is the comedy, POPSTAR: NEVER STOP, NEVER STOPPING, starring Andy Samberg. It took in just $4.6 million, ranking 8th on the chart.
