Thanks to a very strong start of the 2016 NBA Finals, ABC easily wins the first week of the 2016 Summer Season. Games one and two took the top two spots, respectively, with Game one drawing 19.20 million viewers and a 7.3 rating in Adults 18-49. That is the best an NBA game has ever done on ABC. The network also placed five other programs within the top 30, including the two NBA Pre-games shows and a NBA-Primetime JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE.
Going heavy with original programming, NBC takes the #2 spot of the week, placing six shows in the top 30, with AMERICA'S GOT TALENT taking the #3 spot, with its season premiere. NBC also had solid performances from the season premiere of AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR (#9) and the series premiere of the variety series, MAYA & MARTY (#11). Summer drama, THE NIGHT SHIFT, took the #21 spot.
CBS is pretty much all-encores right now, with just PERSON OF INTEREST and the newsmagazines airing new episodes. But, the network did push five shows into the top ten and a total of 14 into the top 30. But, the lack of a huge summer originals hampers the the numbers, especially in the younger, key demographics.
For FOX< the summer is just an extension of the regular season. Low ratings continue to drag the network down. An original episode of BONES (#22) and the MISS USA pageant (#30), were the entries into the top 30, by FOX. The FOX schedule was all-original, except for Friday night.
The CW fell under an average of one million viewers and lost to ION-TV in total viewers and House holds and tied it in the A18-34 demographic.
