US Box Office Results: Holiday Weekend of May 27 - 30, 2016
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE was the the #1 movie over the Memorial Holiday weekend, hauling on $80 million over the for day holiday. That was more than double the take of ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, the #2 movie of the weekend. However, the latest X-Men movie only ranks 6th, out of nine within the series, for opening weekend gross.
Disney's ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS may be a huge disappointment for the studio, with an opening weekend take of just over $34 million. The first movie, released in 2010, took in $116 million its first weekend. this new movie will be lucky to get that much through its whole theatrical run.
ANGERY BIRDS only lost 35% of its take from last week and stayed in the top five, with $24.6 million. The movie's ten day take is now $72 million , nearing its $73 million production budget.
