ALLEGIANT, the third film in the Divergent Series was not strong enough to dethrone ZOOTOPIA from the top spot of the movie chart. The Disney animated movie took in another $38 million, domestically, to bring its total to just over $200 million, after three weeks of release.
ALLEGIANT only grossed $29 million in its first weekend of release. That is about 45% less than the previous two movies and is on track to gross less than $100 million, domestically. This is not a good sign for the fourth movie, ready to be released, next summer.
Rounding out the top three, was the new film, MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN, starring Jennifer Garner. The small, $13 million dollar movie grossed $15 million in its first three days.
