US Box Office Results: February 12 - 14, 2016
The newest superhero movie, DEADPOOL, dominated the weekend box office hauling in $135 million in its first three days of release. It smashed the previous February opening record, by $45 million, held by last year's 50 SHADES OF GRAY. The film only cost lest than $60 million to produce and has more than doubled that its first weekend. Worldwide, DEADPOOL has collected over $260 million.
The other two new releases, HOW TO BE SINGLE and ZOOLANDER 2, did modest numbers, bringing in $18.8 and $15.7 million, respectively. Both films should end up with a total box office take of around $50 to $60 million, by the end of their run.
Nine week after its release and STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is still in the top 10, bringing in another $6.2 million. The monster hit has a total domestic take of $915 million and a world wide take of over two billion dollars. It is just $160 million from taking the #2 all-time world wide take, besting Titanic.
