Final Broadcast Ratings: January 29, 2016
Did CBS not get the memo on when the 2016 February sweeps were beginning? Night two of two, the network has had more encores than original programming, yet still performs well enough to be the most watched network and second in the A18-49 and A25-54 demographics. Perhaps knowing it has both the Super Bowl and The Grammys during the period, it can afford a few nights of encores and save them for March/April.
ABC was the night's top network in all three key demos. SHARK TANK posted ratings more common to the series, with a 1.7 rating in Adults 18-49. Compared to its last original episodes, two weeks earlier, the demo is up 20% and total viewership is up 1.3 million.
FOX closed out the season on MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, with it winning the 8 p.m. hour in the key demographics, including a solid 1.7 in Adults 25-54 and the second best A18-34 rating of the night, a 1.0. Following, SECOND CHANCE, in its new time slot, did not do much better than its former Wednesday slot. On Friday, it drew just 2.2 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in the A18-49 demo. A week ago Wednesday, it 3.8 million viewers and a 1.0 demo rating, following AMERICAN IDOL.
NBC also had a season finale, with back-to-back episodes of UNDATEABLE. The third year comedy averaged just 2.7 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in Adults 18-49, over the two episodes. At best, UNDATEABLE is a bubble show for a fourth season renewal. GRIMM returned to the airwaves to soft numbers. it placed fourth in the 9 PM hour, losing to an encore of H5O.
The CW's new Friday night was a bit of an improvement to recent seasons, but kind of sad to see what was once the flagship series of the network, now in the forgetful time slot of Friday nights.
