Preliminary Ratings: Sunday 01/03/2016
Football ruled the first Sunday night of 2016, as CBS, FOX and NBC all featured NFL programming on the night. CBS' overrun game and NBC's SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL drew the same viewer totals of 21.5 million, but SNF had the edge in the younger demos, with a prime, NFC North rivalry match up. FOX's overrun game, a blowout by Seattle, only delivered about 10 million viewers into primetime.FOX had two series premieres on the night, the comedies COOPER BARRETT'S GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE, at 8:30, and BORDERTOWN, at 9:30. Both shows did not do well, doing worse with retention than BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, respectively, did in the fall. One or both shows may have a short lifespan and be cancelled by the February sweeps.
ABC's season two premiere of GALAVANT also did poor in the ratings, ranking last in its time slot, losing to COOPER BARRETT, head to head. Not surprising by the soft numbers as it did basically the same thing in its first season.
60 MINUTS and UNDERCOVER BOSS did about average numbers for their respective time slots, especially with an NFL Game as lead in.
