Final Broadcast Ratings: January 5, 2015
CBS sweeps the Tuesday night ratings, with a nice one-two punch of the NCIS/NCIS: NEW ORLEANS cross over event. The network averaged 18.1 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in Adults 18-49, from 8 to 10 p.m. NCIS: NEW ORLEANS retained over 90% of its NCIS lead in. However, LIMITLESS is a glaring weak spot for CBS. It lost over 65% of the total viewership from NCIS: NO and dropped over 40% of the A18-49 demo. It may be time for CBS to cut LIMITLESS from the night and try another series in the 10 p.m. slot.
NBC had its own cross-over event, with CHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO MED, airing between 9 and 11 p.m. It was less successful than the NCIS event, but did allow NBC to take second on the night and win the 10 p.m. time slot. Earlier, the season premiere of HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT did relatively decent numbers, placing third in the 8 p.m. slot, in the three demo rating.
FOX's new all-comedy Tuesday night did not get off to a good start, with the network barely edging ABC for the #3 spot on the night. The season premiere of NEW GIRL did OK, with a 1.3 rating in Adults 18-34. third best number of the night. But the freshman series GRANDFATHERED dropped over a third of its lead in, at 8:30. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE did build upon its lead in, but equalled its worst ratings of the season. THE GRINDER, at 9:30, was the night's lowest rated original program.
The second season premiere of BEYOND THE TANK, on ABC, did not do well. It placed third in the 10 p.m. time slot, with under four million viewers and a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49. A special new episode of SHARK TANK, at 9 p.m., was not any help.
