Final Broadcast Ratings: January 4, 2016
With a new year, comes new episodes... except on the CW. ABC and CBS battled for the top spot, splitting the four reported categories. CBS took total viewers, the A18-49 and the A25-54 demographics, while ABC was best in the A18-34 demo. FOX and NBC where noticeably further back, trying to win the #3 spot of the night.
The season premiere of THE BACHELOR was the #1 program in the A18-34 demographic, shared the top number in the A18-49 demographic and was tops in Women, 18-49. It was the only program to score a 2.0, or better, in the A18-34 demo. Year-to-year, THE BACHELOR was on par with 2015 season premiere.
Over on NBC, the two comedies, premiering last month, air their first original episodes in their regular time slots. They both did relatively well, but the bar for NBC comedies is not very high. SUPERSTORE did best, grabbing a 1.8 rating in the A18-49 demo and was #2 in the Women 18-49 demo. The season premiere of THE BIGGEST LOSER started off soft, collecting only 3.9 million viewers. Last year, with an early September premiere date, the series brought in 5.4 million viewers, on a Thursday night.
CBS had a solid night for its three dramas, which saw ratings rise from their "fall finales" on December 14th. SUPERGIRL had its best A18-49 rating since the series premierer and the most viewers since episode #2. SCORPION had its best numbers since the season premiere and the drew a season high in total viewers. It was season highs across the board for NCIS: LA.
FOX did OK numbers for its special, SUPERHUMAN. They were below those of GOTHAM, but better than MINORITY REPORT.
