Week One of Release: STAR WARS - THE FORCE AWAKENS
Just like the original movie, back in 1977, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is breaking box office records. In just its first seven days of domestic release, it has the best preview (Thursday night) box office, with over $53 million. The best individual days of Friday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The best cumulative grosses for each day of its release (currently through eight days).
After seven days of release, domestically, STAR WARS: TFA has grossed $391 million, placing it in the #3 spot for the year. By the end of its second weekend, it well be the #2 movie of the year, behind JURASSIC WORLD. It has an outside chance of passing JURASSIC WORLD by the end of the year, with less then $80 million needed in four weekdays. Worldwide, the film had brought in just under $900 million in a little over a week of release.
On the All-Time chart, STAR WARS: TFA is already #1 on the domestic list, and will be at #6 spot by the ned of this weekend (Dec. 27). The all-time domestic box office is $760.5 million, by AVATAR. Experts are projecting $900 million for STAR WARS: TFA. Worldwide, the record is in the #38 spot, after the first week. The $1 Billion mark will place it at #24. it will need $1.58 billion to break the top 10. The all-time worldwide record is $2.79 billion by AVATAR.
