US Box Office Results: December 25 - 27, 2015
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS continues to dominate and break records. in its second weekend of release, the eight movie of the STAR WARS franchise collected another $154 million, domestically, bringing its 10-day total to $545 million, making it the #2 movie of the year. The movie needs $90 million to top JURASSIC WORLD, as 2015's #1 movie of the year. Las Monday through Thursday, the movie took in over $120 million, so it is very possible. Internationally, STAR WARS: TFA has passed the $1 Billion mark, Basically equalling its domestic take, internationally.
Four new movies were in wide released this weekend, with the Will Ferrell, DADDY'S HOME, doing the best. the comedy collected $39 million, more then doubling up the #3 movie of the week, JOY, also new to theaters. The new Will Smith movie, CONCUSSION disappointed with just an $11 million take in its first three days, placing 6th on the chart. The worst performing new movie was the remake, POINT BREAK, grabbing just over $10 million in its first weekend.
Movies of note, beyond the chart, THE HATEFUL EIGHT, in just 100 theaters, grossed over $4.5 million. In just 4 theaters, the new Leonardo DiCaprio movie, THE REVENANT, averaged over $117,000 per screen, the best of ANY movie this weekend.
