US Box Office Results: October 2 - 4, 2015
THE MARTIAN became this fall's top box office opening as the Matt Damon science fiction thriller scored $55 million in its first three days. It fell just short of posting the top opening weekend for October, which is still held by 2013's GRAVITY.
Last week's #1 movie, HOTELL TRANSYLVANIA 2, only fell 31% from its opening weekend, to rake in an additional $33 million. The Animated movie is already over $90, domestically, and should top $100 million before next weekend.
The oldest movie on the chart, WAR ROOM, took in 2.8 million in its 6th weekend. The small budget Christian movie is now at $60 million total.
