2015 Commercial Cost Survey: Tuesday Nights
AdAge has released their 2015 primetime network ad price survey and this year we will break them down night by night.
The most expensive Tuesday night ad is, of course, THE VOICE. It commands near $224k per spot, but that is down 8% from last season's average. The series is still strong at drawing younger demographic viewers, relative to other network shows. What does hurt THE VOICE is the fall of of the ratings, about six weeks into each edition.
Also on NBC, BEST TIME EVER could only top THE GRINDER in average prices for an ad, on the low end, but its will only run through about half the fall portion of the season. CHICAGO MED will premiere in November, and grab an average of $120,600 per spots, about the average for the night.
FOX's all new Tuesday line up pulls prices on the low end. The two comedies are two of the three lowest prices shows, excluding The CW. SCREAM QUEENS did get a higher than average price, approaching $150,000 per commercial, third most of the night. Based on early results, I doubt SCREAM QUEENS will hit their guarantees and FOX may have to look as compensation to those early ad buyers.
It is kind of sad the a third year series like AGENTS OF SHIELD can only pull the same rates as two comedies that have about 20 episodes between them. The action drama had the largest drop in prices, year-to-year, adjusting down 14%.
CBS is down, overall, for the night. NCIS is down $19,000, while NCIS: NO is up $11,000. But new series LIMITLESS hauls in about $30,000 less than what PERSON OF INTEREST took in, last fall.
Tuesdays is the CW's most lucrative night, thanks to a near 40% rise in prices for THE FLASH. Its $70,600 per ad cost is by far the most for the network. iZOMBIE holds its own, hovering around the average for the network.
