US Box Office Results: September 25 - 27, 2015
The animated sequel HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 was this weekends #1 movie, hauling in a strong $47.5 million in its first three days of release. That is $5 million better than the original movie did in 2012 and puts the movie as the #1 september release of all time. The franchise owns the top two september releases and animated movies have four of the top 10 for the month.
The new Robert DeNiro/ Anne Hathaway movie was a distant second place bringing in just 18.2 million. For DeNiro, this is his best wide-release opening weekend since LIMITLESS, in early 2011. For Hathaway, this is her worst wide-release, live action movie since ELLA ENCHANTED in 2004.
SICARIO had the top per screen average of the weekend, averaging $30,000 in each of its 59 screens. That average placed it 10th on the weekend. The film hits wide release this coming Friday.
The Christian movie WAR ROOM is still performing nicely at the box office, adding another $4.3 million its total take is at $56 million and has its eye to be the #2 small budget Christian movie of all time, behind 2014'a HEAVEN IS FOR REAL.
