US Box Office Results: September 18 - 20, 2015
Three new movies enter this weekend's Box Office top 10, including the #1 movie, MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TIRALS. The second of the Maze Runner movies, earned $30.3 million in its first three days of release, bringing in slightly less than the first movie, one year ago. That movie just barely passed $100 million, domestically, so expect a total very similar to THE SCORCH TRIALS to bring in.
The new Johnny Depp movie, BLACK MASS, took in just over $23 million for the #2 spot of the weekend. The $53 million movie should easily make its production budget back, but should fall short of $80 million for its total domestic take. Outside of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies, Depp has only had three live action movies take in over $100 million, and those three were retelling of classic stories/fairy tales.
The third new movie, EVEREST, may have finished in the #5 spot, but it had the weekend's best per screen average, with just under $14,000. The movie took in $7.6 million on just 545 screens
